Georg-August-University Göttingen Foundation under Public Law - University Medical Center Göttingen
On application of the senate and in accordance with § 55 Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz (NHG), the Georg-August-University Göttingen assumed the legal status of a foundation under public law on 01 January 2003. This is associated with legal independence for the University from the state and with an increase in institutional autonomy.
The responsibility of the Foundation is to further develop the University of Göttingen notably in the areas of research, teaching, patient care, services in the public healthcare system, initial, further and continuing training, as well as technology transfer. The aim is to enable the University to increase the quality of research, teaching, academic studies, and further education by using efficiently and responsibly the money which the state has handed over. The Foundation University Göttingen consists of the domains of University of Göttingen (without Medicine) and University Medical Center Göttingen, each with their own foundation assets and their own foundation- and supervisory boards. The division takes into account the specific responsibilities of the University Medical Center as Göttingen the central health care institution in Lower Saxony.
